I’m Dutch. My first big move was to the United States, and that’s where I learned what immigration paperwork really looks like from the applicant’s side. Forms that don’t explain themselves. Requirements that vary depending on who you ask. Deadlines you discover three days before they hit.
I’ve moved between Europe and the US four times now, eventually with a partner, a kid, and a dog in tow. Every move got more complicated. And every single time, the paperwork was the worst part.
Why I built this
It had to exist, right?
When we started planning our next move, to Spain, I figured this time would be easier. I’d done this before. Four times, actually. How hard could it be?
Then I sat down to work out my wife’s visa application. She’s American, so different forms, different requirements, different rules than mine. I found myself on a Spanish government website, running it through Google Translate, cross-referencing a 2023 blog post with a Reddit thread from someone who “thinks” their consulate asked for something different, trying to piece together which version of which form applied to which consulate.
And it hit me: I’d been here before. Not just once. Every single move, the same thing: playing detective, building a mental map from scattered clues, triple-checking every document because one wrong form means rejection.
So I went looking for something better. A service that would just handle the paperwork: pull together the right forms, fill them in correctly, match everything to the right consulate. It had to exist, right?
It didn’t.
So I did the arguably foolish thing and decided to build it myself. Turns out naming it was the hardest part.
